Cliched as it may sound, the people did their bit to restore a semblance of balance between the ruling party and the opposition, now it’s the turn of the political leadership to act in accordance with the mandate. Restoring the primacy and the bipartisan nature of the standing committees is by far the most important step to restore democratic legislative decision making. Having said that, the past record of this regime doesn’t inspire much confidence, despite the changed political landscape.
